HR and Safety Committees:  A Perfect Fit

Safety committees are most effective when they are valued and supported at all levels of the organization. HR plays a key role in leading the safety committee to success.  For organizations to get beyond compliance and implement best practices, it requires a partnership between HR and the safety committee. HR professionals provide vital support to the safety committee through leadership, advice, reporting, trend analysis, safety committee candidate identification, encouraging employee engagement, and communication. Safety committees provide vital support to HR through their administration of the Safety and Health program. This team of safety advocates provides oversight, compliance, planning, investigation, analysis, and communication for the safety and health program. When the partnership between HR and the safety committee works well, employee learning and professional development advance, engagement and satisfaction increases, safety and health improves, and strategic outcomes are achieved. Learn how HR can make or break safety committee success and the effectiveness of the health and safety program.
