Personality typing systems, from Myers Briggs Type Indicator to the DISC and Gallup’s Strengths-Finder are very common in organizational life. The common thinking is that knowing oneself and understanding our differences can promote better working relationships, which improves organizational outcomes. While this sort of typing is definitely a benefit, putting ourselves in boxes also has a downside.
